These duffle bags are sewn from old tent canvas previously used at the Milltown and Olympia convention grounds for annual church retreats of the 2×2 Church starting in the year 1911. They are sewn together in Southern California using a SINGER 144w304 long-arm sewing machine that came from the Milltown grounds where many of the convention tents throughout the Pacific Northwest were constructed and repaired from 1920s-1980s.

An an ex-member of this unconventional secretive sect, chopping this canvas up and remaking it into something beautiful and useable has helped me face my own ‘religious baggage’ and redefine my own experience while reconnecting with other ex-members who have come out of a shared experience.
